Theme and Design
Microgaming have always made great looking slot machines, to the point where it has arguably become the brand’s calling card. River of Riches is no different, as it is set deep within the tomb of an unknown Pharaoh. The controls are set into broken stones under the reels, with pillars each side of the reels that shoot fire to celebrate a win. There are also hieroglyphs scattered across the wall behind the reels for good measure.
The symbols are pretty well designed too, as they include the Pharaoh’s mask, an ankh, and a sunset over the pyramids. On top of all the high paying icons in this online slots release, there are also playing card symbols, but sadly they aren’t very Egyptian looking. Perhaps including the hieroglyphs would have made it a little too visually intense. The sounds the reels make when they spin is also pretty satisfying, as it is the sound you hear when you score a win. Presentation wise, River of Riches has all the makings of a hit.
Special Features
River of Riches features a wild symbol that can take the place of any other symbol, except for the free spins icon. The wild symbol won’t give you a payout, but it helps create winning combinations. You earn free slots by landing the red jewel. There is also a scatter bonus hidden here that gives you a reward for landing two or more of them anywhere on the reels. They don’t need to be in a line. There is also a multiplier applied. If you land 5 you earn 50x times your bet, 10x times your bet for 4, 4x times your bet for 3, and finally 2x times your bet for 2. Getting three or more of them will also grab you 10 free slots to play with.
The amount of free spins you get is set at 10, even if you score 5 scatters. A lovely little animation of sparks covering the reels plays before the free spins begin. The sparks leave behind between 1 and 4 sticky wilds that last until the bonus round reaches its conclusion.
